McAdams is honored to be more than Columbia, MO’s preferred gift and home decor store. We also provide a list of unique services and in-store offerings to make gift or personal shopping a pleasure. To schedule a service appointment or learn more about how McAdams can serve you, call our store to speak to one of our knowledgeable staff. We would be happy to help you find the perfect gift for your friends, family, or yourself.
What Is Your New Year’s Resolution? Do you have broken jewelry in your jewelry box? Any single earrings? Rings that are too tight? Do you want to repurpose an outdated piece of jewelry so that you can enjoy wearing it? Is your grandparent’s broken clock still in the basement? Is there a wrist watch that’s been dead for years lying on your dresser? Do you have your mother’s silver candlesticks that need polishing, repair, or re-plating? Is there a set of silver flatware under your bed?
Then come see us at McAdams’ Ltd. and we’d be happy to help you with your to-do list!
It is best that you bring in your items with questions in person so we can guide you in the proper direction as to who can help you best.
Sincerely,
Rebecca and Charlie
We proudly offer you the following services, and so much more!
Are you looking to create a custom piece of jewelry? Maybe you’ve lost a stone or cracked one in a piece of jewelry and need to replace it. We have an extensive list of vendors and service providers we have worked with for decades who can help serve you. We can also order a variety of stones for you to see. You can explore a variety of stone sizes, quality, colors, and shapes, all of which can affect the price of the diamond or gemstone. We will work with you to meet your expectations, vision, and budget.
If you have a piece of jewelry you don’t wear because you favor others in your collection or because it feels dated, consider repurposing your jewelry. From family heirlooms to styles that may have fallen out of fashion, McAdams can assist you to redesign or repurpose your gold, silver, and platinum jewelry. We can take a loose stone and create a new piece of jewelry incorporating it. We can recreate the same piece using a different metal. We can even take multiple stones or pieces of jewelry and incorporate them all into one piece. This is often the case for those who are given loose stones or old jewelry to convert to engagement rings. McAdams loves working with you to create a piece that is one-of-a-kind and perfect for the one you love, or just for you.
When you bring in your broken or damaged jewelry for repair, we are happy to visit with you to discuss the estimated cost to repair it. We can also have a difficult conversation regarding whether it’s worth fixing based on its sentimental value or worth.
While you browse our store, drop your jewelry off at our counter to be cleaned, and McAdams will ensure it is sparkling and beautiful upon pickup.
Do you have a broken pearl bracelet or necklace? Bring it in and we can give you an estimate for restringing the jewelry. Sometimes it may not seem worth it if the jewelry is costume jewelry, but many times the sentimental value warrants the expense so that you can continue to enjoy the item or pass it on to a family member. We can also re-string beaded jewelry that may break apart. If you have lost any beads, we can do our best to source beads to match and add to your jewelry.
Jewelry appraisals are most often used for insurance purposes. However, if you have jewelry or small items that you feel have value but do not need to be insured, many times we may provide a verbal replacement value for the item. We can also advise you on the worth of what you have. This can be helpful when donating the item and let you know the proper amount to use for your tax deduction. You may need the values of items you and your siblings are inheriting but splitting up, so you can separate them. At times, people have items with more sentimental value than dollar value and are best to either keep, give to a loved one, or donate to a worthy cause such as Upscale Resale (Assistance League of Mid-Missouri). We offer jewelry appraisals for $75 per hour, with a minimum of one hour.
McAdams offers engraving services in-house as well as through third-party engraving services. We can offer traditional engraving on items purchased from our store such as metal picture frames, serving trays, and jewelry. To engrave crystal or wood pieces, or to have laser engraving on stainless steel items, we use several contacts in Columbia and surrounding towns. Hand engraving for metal pieces is also an option. We prefer to use our hand engraver for personalizing fine jewelry such as wedding bands. Hand engraving is often times warranted when engraving a more expensive item, a vintage or antique item, a family heirloom, or a gift you hope will remain in the family for generations to come. Contact us to learn more about engraving and how it may impact a piece purchased in-store as well as heirloom metals or alternate materials.
We offer polishing services for your sterling candlesticks, tea sets, flatware, and other fine dining or décor pieces. We can also shine up your brass, copper, and silver-plated items. This service is provided for $35 per hour with a minimum of one hour. If you’d like to polish the pieces in your collection and then set them aside in storage for later use, we offer silver keeper bags to ensure your items are protected against tarnishing while not in use. We also sell silver polishing supplies if you choose to polish or maintain the pieces yourself. If your items need repair, we are happy to contact Hiles Plating in Kansas City and send your items to them to assess and give you an estimate for the repair.
Couples today are excited to register for new linens, décor, and kitchen necessities. However, you may not consider how you might need to entertain in the future or what events will be hosted with your growing family. Inheriting dishes, crystal, or silver flatware can also be intimidating, especially if you are not familiar with serving customs or if the style doesn’t align with your own. We enjoy helping to educate couples on how to use what they will inherit and how to incorporate new items you may wish to register for. McAdams can also help you consider pieces that may not have come to mind in your initial registry creation.
We carry stainless flatware and can always order sterling if requested. We also carry fine and everyday crystal, as well as fine bone china and everyday stoneware.
Our associates would love to work with couples who ask, “What do I do with that?,” “When would I use that?,” and “How do I clean it and keep it from getting scratched?” We have the answers and love to help answer your questions to make the most of what you put on your registry.
A McAdams couple will have a beautiful table decorated with their registry gift items on it, a name card, and a picture of the couple. We also provide an incredibly convenient online registry your out-of-town guests can view and purchase from. Our team would be happy to work with your guests to select the perfect gift for you, complete with a card and beautiful gift wrapping. We offer delivery to weddings and showers in Columbia and nearby towns, as well as shipping of wrapped gifts.
Registries will receive placement in the local newspaper advertising your registry at our store. We also enjoy working with couples either individually or together to design custom engagement rings and wedding bands. In addition, as the big day approaches, we work with couples to select hostess gifts for those who have bridal or couple’s showers or luncheons, and attendee gifts for the wedding party members, the officiant, family, and friends who all help with the big day. Learn more about our wedding registries.
We carry several furniture and upholstery lines that allow us to order in fabric for your furniture. We’d be happy to visit with you about a color palette or pattern you’re looking for and the detailing of your upholstery to help you bring a new life to your furniture and décor. We use Terwelp Upholstery in Columbia to reupholster your furniture; however, you may buy the fabric and use someone else of your choosing.
Are you ready to spruce up your living room, dining room, or an alternate space in your home? Do you need a picture or mirror hung? Could your dated furniture feel brand new with custom upholstery? We’d be glad to assist you. Feel free to visit with us about your decorating needs. We will do our best to help, as well as recommend professionals we can vouch for to do the job for you as well! If you really only need help decorating your home for the holidays, we are also available for this service.
We are more than happy to safely and securely ship your purchases from McAdams. If you are shipping a gift, we offer beautiful wrapping and shipping options that protect the gift from damage often caused in transit. No more crumpled bows or underwhelming unboxings.
Our longtime customers put their trust in McAdams to choose the right gift for a close friend or family member’s birthday, holiday gift, anniversary present, and so much more. If you are unable to visit our store, please call McAdams so that we may shop for you over the phone. We will share what we’ve selected with you and arrange for shipping or delivery.
We take pride in our beautiful gift-wrapping services. McAdams offers beautiful wedding, special occasions, and holiday paper and tops every gift with a handmade bow to fit the occasion or the recipient. This service is complimentary for our customers in-store or through over-the-phone shopping.
In the spring and fall we host a jewelry trunk show featuring a popular or up-and-coming jewelry designer. The designer will bring in additional items we may not carry in-store, as well as pieces from new collections that have yet to arrive at the store.
If you have not attended our amazing Holiday Open House, we encourage you to make this the year to do so. We host it annually in November and pack our store with Christmas and holiday decor and gifts. Follow us on Facebook or join our email list to receive announcements of our special events and sales so that you will not miss out on the fun!
Do you have an upcoming special event for your club or organization? Would you like to make it even more exciting and perhaps increase attendance by hosting it in conjunction with a shopping outing? We are more than happy to host your organization’s meeting, provide wine and appetizers, as well as offer a discount to your group. Alternatively, we can donate a portion of the proceeds from the event to your organization or a non-profit of your choice. Let us help make your formal meeting a bit more fun!

We are happy to assess your items and guide you on the best options. Depending on the situation, we can help sell them for you, recommend a consignment shop, make an offer to purchase, suggest donation with a recorded value for tax purposes, or advise passing the item along to a family member if it holds greater sentimental value.
For example, we can buy sterling silver flatware for its melt value. However, silver-plated flatware and items like your grandmother’s china generally don’t sell well as a complete set. In such cases, we can recommend consignment shops or connect you with John Neebe at China Unlimited.

We offer traditional engraving services on jewelry, sterling silver, and smaller silver-plated items. For more expensive items that warrant hand-engraving, we work with a skilled hand-engraver who provides exceptionally beautiful and custom work. However, hand-engraving tends to be more costly compared to traditional or laser engraving.
